Episode 45- “The Juice Ain’t Worth The Squeeze”

Sep 08, 2009 7 Comments by thejudopodcast

In this ranting episode, Mike and Gene talk about the summer national and international competitions for juniors, and the newly proposed rules from the IJF regarding no hand attacks below the waist.  For a quick update, Rhadi Ferguson and Jimmy Pedro started a thread on the Judo Forum and there was another thread by Rhadi Ferguson on the downward spiral of judo.  Mike and Gene also talked about the recent USA Judo BOD conference call which included the possibility to support jiu jitsu, specifically BJJ, under the organization.  The 2009 Judo US Open will feature a shared event with On The Mat’s Jiu Jitsu National Championships.  This podcast is sponsored by Nutrient Technology, “Nutrition supported by research”. Sorry to tell you this, it still doesn’t work. Unless the problem is on my side.

Good stuff, As someone who wrestles and does Judo, I agree with everything you guys have said about the new rules and wrestling & Judo being different.

The comments about the USA Judo tournament struck home. I cannot convince my parents to spend their minimal disposable income on their pricey tournaments. I coach HS wrestling also and they are more fun, less cost and most referees appear to be there for the kids. The stoic Judo referee may be sincere but the appearance is that protocol is more important than the contestant
