New Years Resolutions

With another year coming quickly upon us, it has once again come to that dreaded time of thinking about New Year’s Resolutions. I believe that we need to constantly set new goals for ourselves, and with a New Year, it is the perfect time to put some thought in it. Here are some ideas to help you set and achieve your goals.

  • Create a plan, and do it NOW. Setting goals without a plan is one sure way to fail. A plan involves what you want to do, and steps to achieve it. Be sure to think about what you want to do. What modifications are you going to have to make to do so? Think about things like work or school schedules, family and other obligations
  • Write down your goal, and the steps you think it will take to achieve your goal. Place them somewhere, or even several places that you will see them, to reinforce your dedication
  • Think about the whole year, not just the “New Year”. Nothing worthwhile comes cheap or easy. It takes hard work, dedication and time. Spread your goals out over time to make them more successful while allowing you more flexibility. Take small steps.
  • Stay flexible. There are things that will come up from time to time that may take precedence over your plan. Sometimes your goal or plans will even change. Just remember to stay flexible and stick with it.

I want you to think about what goals you have for the New Year, and how judo might affect those goals. Especially for Juniors, write them down and bring them in to class. Good luck to all, and best wishes for the New Year! This article originally posted by OKCDT Judo.
