On October 4, 2008 the Texas A&M University Judo team hosted one of the
largest tournaments in Texas. 315 competitors from around the continent
including Texas, Colorado, Arkansas, Louisiana, California, Tennessee,
Florida and Mexico competed in the 14th Annual Go Shibata Memorial Judo
Tournament. Contested divisions included Junior, Senior, Novice ,
Master and Kata.

New for this year was a highly anticipated Dual meet between the Texas
A&M and the Air Force Academy. The Air Force Academy fielded three
separate teams to compete against Texas A&M’s Novice, Senior, and Alumni
teams. The competition didn’t disappoint, but in the end Texas A&M
proved victorious with wins from all three teams.

The Annual Go Shibata Memorial Tournament not only provides great
competition for all ages and skill levels but also helps the Texas A&M
Judo team show case the University’s facilities, campus, and
competition. The team has a great judo program which even includes a
scholarship.

Congrats to the TAMU team. Its been a long time since I’ve practiced with those guys and I really miss it. Nice job by John Lane on that throw…

  2. Bob Perez says:

Mike, that was Abdel Diawara, not John Lane.
